Altar and Cross
Introduction

This page gives an account of all that went on the weekend of June 3rd and June 4th, when we had the main celebrations of our Anniversary year. As you will have seen on the previous pages, we have been doing a lot during this year. But this weekend in particular was very special and was the culmination of all our efforts. It was a chance not only for our own members to celebrate, but also to meet old acquaintances.

Anniversary Logo Our Anniversary logo has been used in all our publicity during the year and also on our souvenir mugs. We would like to thank Anna Graham for producing this logo for us.
Anniversary Banner At our 40th Anniversary our Women's Fellowship members made a banner showing the activities and ministers of the church since its establishment. For the 50th celebrations they added an extra banner updating it to show our later ministers and new activities such as the Woosenell walks and church lunches.
Fete Saturday - Anniversary Fete

On the Saturday we held a fete in the church grounds to which we invited all the groups who use our premises and also people in the estate. There was a good turnout and the weather was very kind to us. The afternoon was opened by Jane Gates from the Sebastian's Action Trust, to which all profits from the day would go. Various games and other activities were laid on to keep everybody happy.
History display In the Wesley Room the Craft group put on a display of their items. A display board contained photographs, maps and other memorabilia of the early days of the church and Bracknell Town. This generated considerable interest. Refreshments were served in the hall. Copies of our history booklet, The First 50 Years, Anniversary Mugs and Barn Dance tickets were also on sale. The Cheer Leaders put on a short display of their gymnastics. Bracknell Amateur Radio Club had a demonstration station in the church grounds and make contact with other radio amateurs around the world.
Richard Barley Sunday Worship

Morning worship was led by Revd. Richard Barley, a former member of our church who has since become a minister and is now at Droitwich Spa Methodist Church. He was assisted by Jim Kennard, a local preacher in our church. June 4th was Pentecost Sunday, so the All Age Worship service celebrated both the forming of the Christian Church that day 2000 years ago and that of our own church just 50 years ago. Well over 120 people crowded into the church, foyer and Wesley room where a video overflow was set up.
Sunday Lunch After the service everybody had a good chance to meet and exchange memories over coffee before sitting down to a superb lunch in the Hall. A mixed salad buffet was served followed by assorted sweets and we rounded off by sharing a specially baked 50 years anniversary cake.

More photographs of our lunch can be found here.

In the evening at 6.30pm a Circuit service was held to which members from the other churches in our circuit were invited. This was a Songs of Praise service led by Revd. Bryan Coates. Members of the circuit church choirs sung a special anthem. The service was followed by light refreshments.

All agreed that it had been a most enjoyable weekend and well appreciated by our visitors. Many of our own members had worked very hard and now could finally go home and relax.
